Race Days And Weekdays
The new Blur is made for trails, whether you’re racing for podiums or hammering into the sunrise. The suspension, geometry, and chassis combine to deliver a platform capable of the top step, the rest is up to you.
We bumped up the travel, updated the geometry, and spent a lot of time tweaking the suspension kinematics to encourage you to obliterate the boundaries of a traditional “XC bike.” TheBluris right at home sprinting for the hole shot, but it’s also a lightweight and immensely capable short-travel trail bike for the days between the races. Whether you're sprinting out of the gate or out of a corner, aiming for the horizon or the apex, theBlurtakes XCO and injects some 'oh, hell yeah!' into every ride, Monday through Sunday.
Reduced & Refined
Less surface area means less weight. We slimmed down the frame tubes, tweaked the shapes, and took a pair of shears to nearly every carbon ply to reduce the amount of material required to make the frame. Despite the weight loss program,Bluris still built tough enough for a lifetime of riding on rough trails, and carries our legendary lifetime warranty for peace of mind. Oh, and no rider weight limit, just like every Santa Cruz.
120mm of Better Travel
The newBlurgets 120mm of travel front and rear, in a departure from the previous model’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde approach. Not only are XC race courses rough and technical enough to require the additional travel, but committing to a single travel number allowed us to make the suspension and geo significantly better. It still uses our Superlight, flex-stay single-pivot suspension, but we made the leverage curve a lot more progressive. That means theBlursits higher in its travel while you’re pedaling with a lot less bobbing. On descents, the increased travel and progression improve sensitivity at the top of the travel and adds mid-stroke support to complement theBlur's more capable geometry.
Geometry Dialed
Speaking of geometry, we’ve extended the reach significantly, and paired it with shorter stems (50mm on standard builds, 60mm on race builds) to make you feel more like you’re riding “in” the bike instead of “on” the bike. Combined with a 75-degree seat tube angle and a 66-degree head tube angle, the newBlurencourages and rewards hard, aggressive riding on both the climbs and descents. That steeper seat tube is also shorter to allow for better seatpost insertion and longer droppers.
Key Features
Built For XC—Racing or Riding
- The build kits on the newBlurcome in two variations, Standard kits pair a riser bar with a 50mm stem with Fox suspension and Maxxis Aspen AT tires for a trail-riding, while the Race kits opt for a 60mm stem, flat bar, lockouts, and pinner Maxxis Rekon Race tires for a start line-ready configuration.
One Frame, One Layup, All Drivetrains
- The newBlurgoes CC-only across all build kits. This is our lightest grade of carbon fiber, and it delivers on weight, strength, and stiffness in equal measure. And every frame accommodates mechanical derailleur routing.
Versatile Utility
- Two Full Size Water Bottles
- The front triangle fits two full-size water bottles, even on the Flight Attendant build. Ready for your XC Marathon race, or just a long weekend ride
Glovebox
- Our refined Glovebox makes its XC debut on the newBlur—stash a layer, spare tube, or tools inside. And snacks. Every bike ships with the Tool Wallet and Tube Purse to keep things quiet and tidy.
Accessory Mount
- Two bolts on the underside of the top tube give you a place to mount a small multi-tool, tire plug kit, or CO2. Go crazy with your home 3D printer, or use one of a number of options available on the market today—the bolt spacing is the same as a standard water bottle mount.
Hose & Cable Chunnels
- Full-length chunnels added a little bit of weight, but nothing beats sticking your brake hose in one end and having it come out the other end without any finger gymnastics.
Integrated Chain Guide & Down Tube Protector
- The integrated OneUp chain guide adds a bit of security for rougher trails, and the stick-on downtube protector defends against rock strikes without impacting Glovebox storage.
